    Question "AU/NZ Tuned" Radar Detectors - Real or Marketing hype

    Just wondering if some of the sellers around Australian and New Zealand who sell the "Au/NZ tuned models" and claim them to have better detection range are actually telling the truth or is it all marketing hype. So if I go and buy my next detector, say the Escort redline from Amazon or Ebay-USA rather than a "AU/NZ" tuned redline.

    By tuning does it mean the sellers in AU/NZ have just adjusted the settings (which anyone who can read a manual could do) or is it a firmware or even a hardware difference?

    I understand the reasoning behind some of the GPS models. the 9500ix for example has different versions for the speedcam locations.

    Just interested if anyone really knows.

    Thanks,

    Redline ProA is the same.
    New 2015 redline has different firmware for BSRDR.
    I think the Magnum is slightly different firmware for Lower power K.
    STIR+ is a STIR-XRC and that has different firmware.
    9500CI is based on a STIR+ so it has BSRDR.

    Yes, these are the config options for the 2015 Pro-A Redline

    K band segments and MultaRadar CD / CT detection are the main highlights

    As Shane mentions, prior to this, there was no difference to the USA model, except for a Pro-A sticker and the price

    That image posted by "Winterbrew" is of the Escort REDLINE "International Model".
    Here is the link to the USA Escort REDLINE model "Owner's Manual".
    http://www.escortradar.com/pdf/RedLineManual.pdf
    Note Page 13: Overview Of Preferences, RADAR: X, K, Ka, POP.
    No K "segmentation" or Ka "segmentation".
    No "MTRCD", No "MTRCT", No "STRK".

    Unless the Escort REDLINE (corporate webpage) is not up-to-date, it is clear that the "International" REDLINE sold in Au-NZ is different (and superior) to the USA Escort REDLINE.

    Over to you 'winterbrew"; what have you been drinking?

    Yes, prior to the 2015 Intl Pro-A Redline that I have, all AU/NZ Pro-A's had exactly the same features as the USA mode, just a 'Pro-A' sticker on the RD and box, some of the settings such as X band and POP already turned off and a hefty price tag

    Mine's got a build date of around April 2015, and was in the first batch that arrived here. Therefore, probably anything sold here as a Pro-A before that, is just a re-badges US unit

    Also it wouldn't be the first time passing off a Bel STi Driver as a tuned for AU/NZ Bel Sti XR (not all the pics work in the first link anymore) ;

    I just got a redline a week ago, paid the hefty price tag, and it comes with the K and Ka band segmentation among other things, will post a picture of the quick reference card later today.
    Will go google it or look through this forum, but could someone tell me what do the following mean, these were all switched off.
    RDR:
    MTRCD:
    MTRCT:
    STRK:

    Just figured out what the first 3 are
    RDR: When switched on prevents interference from other radar detectors, recommended off, but may give more false alerts.
    MTRCD and CT are the new frequency shifting cameras currently operational in some parts of AU.

    STRK still a mystery

    Strk is a Russian fmcw radar.
    Similar to the MRCT.

    Here's a case of a Pro-A, certaintly not being 'tuned for AU/NZ' conditions, i.e. detecting Poliscan lidar. According to the box, the Intl model is supposed to have more lidar sensors, and wider frequency reception range (says Poliscan on the box);

    AntiLaser Priority easily wins the day, with a 460m (1510') detection of a Poliscan mounted in the back of the Nissan X-Trail on the verge on the left. Escort Redline International Pro-A (2015) can only muster a 50m (165'), which is already 25m inside the Poliscan's maximum range of 75m (250'). The International version claims to have enhanced lidar detection capabilities.

    No doubt, it is sh*t hot on K band though !
