    Explanation of "Radar filter thresholds"?

Can someone clarify what the "Radar filter thresholds" do?

In this screenshot, the defaults are 3 (yellow) and 5 (red), for example.

1 is full alert, 10 is no alert, says the pop-up bubble.

Just what does this mean? If set to 1, does that mean the radar unit will alert at the slightest signal? Would 10 mean it won't alert unless the signal has maxed out to full?

The ALP gives you custom city filters and you can adjust the sensitivity of the antenna to reduce unwanted false alerts in the city. I personally run in Highway which would be equivalent to running with all filters off but you can play around with the sliders to find a sensitivity that you are comfortable with. You can choose 2 filters (Red & Yellow) and each give you an option for separate X & K sensitivity for each band.

Before looking at an Escort Radar Detector you should really check out Uniden Detectors.. Uniden R1 & R3 are the best performing radar detectors for the money.

Tom, With your answer above in mind, I am about to have an ALP Quad w/HiFi and GPS installed in my second car. (First car had ALP Quad w/HiFi and GPS, along with a full STiR Plus system installed). I need to make a decision as to whether I will have a separate complete STiR Plus system installed, or have an Escort 9500ci antenna, or an STiR Plus antenna, installed as a part of the new ALP Quad system. I will not be using a smart phone. I am aware of the features I will not have by installing a 9500ci or STiR Plus antenna on the ALP system.

Do you have a recommendation ? What system/systems do you have in your personal car ?

    Thanks in advance !

If you want GPS lockouts or frequency display, I'd recommend getting a full STiR+ or 9500ci system (or a windshield mount RD) installed.

The only real advantage to integrating with ALP is to consolidate alerts and to display everything on one display (if you were going to use the smartphone app).

I use Sti-R Integration in both my cars but false alerts dont bother me. If false alerts are a nuisance and you want to ignore them you need to go full Sti-R Plus at this time.

I use the integrated STiR+ system, but I don't get falses despite not having GPS due to only running one Ka segment. If I had to run K band frequently, I'd go with the full STiR+ for GPS lockouts or the Stinger (the latter would assume that I don't mind paying almost $5k for the RD system and being a guinea pig for testing what's basically a work in progress). Benefits to running the Stinger would be that you'd get arrows, kinda like the V1, but in an integrated setup, but this requires a pricey purchase of a second antenna, which alone costs more than the entire STiR+ system, CPU and all.

The frequency display issue should be resolved once the AL Display comes out (but to my knowledge, there is not even an estimated date for its release). That's my only complaint about the integrated RD system at the moment; I intend to buy the AL Display when it comes out.

Thanks for the advice awj223. As I really do not drive extremely fast very often, an ALP Quad w/HiFi & GPS system, along with a full STiR+ system will most likely be what I have installed in my second car. Here in NJ, LEOs still use K-band units, I believe, as well as Ka-band units. I also drive thru Delaware, to Maryland. I do not presently use a smart phone app, nor will I in the future. No matter how good the Stinger system may prove to be in the future, the thought of dropping 5K on that system, plus installation, does not make sense for my driving style. I wish, as you and many others also do, that the display for the ALP system was presently available. I do realize that ALP has more important things to do at the present time and that the ALP display will, hopefully, be available in the future. As the control units for the ALP and the STiR+ will be custom/flush installed in a rectangular storage bin, with a closing cover, in my car's center console area, as will the ALP display (when available), I wish I knew the approximate measurements of the proposed ALP display, in order to place the ALP and STiR+ control units in such a way that there will be appropriate room for the ALP display unit. I'll just have to do the best I can now, and make modifications when the ALP display becomes available in the future. Anyway, Thanks again for your thoughts on the matter.

same here, if the display is available, I would be willing to get the radar integration, but because it's not and I'm not willing to go without seeing the frequency of radar signals, i have to settle for running a windshield mounted detector

Display keeps getting pushed back for more important projects. I don't have an ETA. If you use ALP Connect you will get frequency display.

Why don't you get the full STiR+ system? Even when AL gets the AL Display, it won't have GPS lockouts.
